After nearly three decades steering the Ship of Justice at the University of Michigan Law School, Senior Assistant Dean Sarah Zearfoss has announced her decision to step down following the 2026-2027 academic year. Known affectionately as "Dean Z" among students and colleagues alike, her impact on the Law School has been remarkable, guiding the admissions office and shaping the experiences of over 9,000 alumni. As she prepares to pass the baton, Zearfoss acknowledges the importance of maintaining momentum in an ever-evolving legal landscape.

Sarah Zearfoss has not only managed the logistics of admission but has also cultivated a culture at Michigan Law that fosters inclusivity and support. Law professor Leah Litman encapsulated Zearfoss's significance, remarking, "She’s the face of Michigan to applying and admitted students."
