Planning for Better Care: Covenant's New Orthopedics Facility
Covenant HealthCare has announced exciting plans for a new state-of-the-art orthopedics facility in Saginaw Township, set to expand access to advanced musculoskeletal care across mid-Michigan. On February 26, 2026, Covenant revealed that the groundbreaking for this new center is scheduled for April 8, 2026, with a projected opening in the summer of 2027.
Comprehensive Outpatient Services to Elevate Healthcare Standards
The new facility will span approximately 25,700 square feet and is strategically located next to the Covenant Cancer Care Center, easily accessible via Tittabawassee Road. Designed with convenience in mind, the center will house 44 exam rooms, four x-ray rooms, and special procedure spaces, all aimed at providing comprehensive outpatient orthopedic services under one roof.
“This new facility allows us to build on our established orthopedic programs, expanding access to care for our community and enhancing convenience for patients and families,” said Beth Charlton, President and CEO of Covenant HealthCare.
A Versatile Approach to Orthopedic Care
A highlight of this new facility is the introduction of Covenant HealthCare OrthoExpress, an innovative orthopedic-focused urgent care center. This center is set to provide immediate care for acute bone, joint, and muscle injuries, circumventing the need for emergency room visits for non-life-threatening conditions.
“Our urgent care model is designed around our patients’ needs—offering quick and accessible care that our community deserves,” said Adam Tompa, Vice President of Clinical Service Lines. The OrthoExpress clinic aims to streamline care pathways for those in need of orthopedic attention.
Expert Team at the Helm
The facility will be staffed by a diverse team of specialists, including ten orthopedic surgeons bringing expertise in various specialties such as sports medicine, adult reconstruction, and pediatric orthopedics. In addition, two podiatrists and dedicated sports medicine professionals will ensure a comprehensive approach to care.
The multidisciplinary team, which also includes advanced practice providers—physician assistants and nurse practitioners—reflects Covenant's commitment to a collaborative care model focused on patients’ diverse needs.
Economic Impact on the Community
This $25 million investment by Covenant HealthCare not only enhances healthcare access but also signals a robust economic boost for Saginaw Township. As this facility opens, the promise of new jobs and enhanced services will positively influence the broader Great Lakes Bay Region.
Local leaders have expressed enthusiasm regarding the anticipated impact on community health and economic activity, indicating that Covenant's commitment to expanding its footprint indicates a promising future for healthcare in the region.
Future Development on the Horizon
This orthopedics center represents just the first step in a larger plan for healthcare expansion surrounding the Covenant Mackinaw Campus. With significant developments on the horizon, the facility is expected to pave the way for additional innovations and services, directly benefiting the families of Saginaw Township and beyond.
Invitation to the Community
Residents and stakeholders are invited to join the groundbreaking ceremony on April 8, where they can learn more about this transformative project and its benefits for the community.
As we await the doors to this new facility opening, the pledge to improve orthopedic care in mid-Michigan is clear, and Covenant HealthCare remains steadfast in its mission to provide exceptional health services to its community.
Stay tuned for updates on the progress of this vital facility and prepare to experience enhanced orthopedic care right in your neighborhood.
